MIRI: A 14-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car while crossing the road at Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass here at around 11.30am yesterday.

It is believed that the pedestrian, Leonard Standly, was a Form 2 student at a secondary school in Permyjaya.

He was crossing the road with two other friends when he was hit by a car at the four-lane road.

The car reportedly sped off after the accident. According to witnesses, it bore a Brunei plate number.

The victim’s friends were not found at the scene after the incident.

Miri Hospital paramedics confirmed his death at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, the victim was believed to have arrived at school early to wait for school to start at 1pm.
