MACC arrests 26-year-old man for alleged attempt to bribe

BINTULU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly attempting to bribe MACC and police officers at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office here on Wednesday.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Zailanni Amit said the suspect had offered RM1,000 to enforcement officers so that they would not charge him for an offence listed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The suspect is also being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009 for offering bribe, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, or a maximum fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of bribe on conviction.

The man was one of the drug pushers arrested by the police during ‘Ops Cantas’ on Wednesday night.

During the operation, various types of drugs worth RM22,000 were confiscated from two suspects.
