KUCHING: The state Democratic Action Party (DAP) will hold an emergency meeting here today to discuss Dr Ting Tiong Choon’s disqualification as Pujut assemblyman.

On Friday, the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) passed a ministerial motion to disqualify Dr Ting based on his Australian citizenship and bankruptcy there.

“From the preliminary discussion we had last night (Friday), it is likely that we will take up the matter to court,” state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen to a press conference yesterday prior to handing out flowers for Mother’s Day.

According to him, the interpretation of the State Constitution should be made by a judge and not by the DUN.

“Given such practises, we should challenge the matter in court,” said Chong.

The ministerial motion to disqualify Dr Ting received 70 votes, while 10 DUN members from the opposition voted against it.
