MIRI: Officers from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) here arrested a group of four men, including an Indonesian for suspected involvement in motorcycle thefts in the city on Friday evening.

In the 7.30pm arrest, the CID team led by Inspector Nasrul Hadi Jahat managed to round up all four suspects aged between 25 and 45 while they were having a drink at a coffee shop near E-mart commercial centre in Tudan.

Miri deputy police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

He said the CID team seized a car from the suspects believed to have been used by them to carry out their activities.

“Two screw drivers and several keys were found in the car which were later seized by police,” he said.

The suspects who are all jobless, are believed to be actively involved in motorcycle theft cases in the city. Police are investigating the case under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motor vehicle theft.

“The Indonesian man is also detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Immigration Act for failure to produce valid documents,” Stanley said. All suspects are being detained at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) pending investigation.
