PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will enhance the use of technology in the delivery system in an effort to check corruption and abuse of power in enforcement agencies.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the use of technology in the renewal of licences and payment via online and kiosks had reduced contact between RTD officers and users, thus reducing corruption and abuse of power.
“For the enforcement of road traffic rules, the RTD is using the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) and the Automated Enforcement System (AES) which use camera footage.
“Although zero complaint cases is impossible to achieve, improvement should be done, especially in matters related to delivery,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the RTD and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the launch of No Gift Policy and the Corruption Free Pledge, here yesterday.
The MoU was signed by RTD director-general Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron and MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil.
The RTD had taken disciplinary action against 33 officers for various offences last year in which eight were sacked and seven were suspended. — Bernama
