KUCHING: SMK Sadong Hilir was crowned as the winner of the state-level Head of State Challenge Trophy ‘Forum Belia’ held at the Balai Budaya of Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka (DBP) here yesterday.
With the topic ‘Langkah-langkah dan cabaran menjadikan Malaysia sebagai hab bekalan makanan halal dunia,’ the school won RM5,000, the TYT challenge trophy, and RM1,000 for each student in the forum team, certificates and books from DBP.
One of the forum members, Afiqah Husna, was crowned as the best forum member, winning herself RM500, certificates and books from DBP.
The school will represent the state at the national level ‘Forum Belia’ which will be held in August.
Coming in second place was SMK Baru Miri, with the topic ‘Dirgahayu Bahasa Melayuku’, winning RM4,000, and RM800 for each forum member, certificates and books from DBP.
In third place was SMK Sri Aman with their topic ‘Mata Pelajaran Sejarah: Relevankah Masa Ini’. The school won RM3,000, and RM600 for each forum member, certificates and books from DBP.
The event also saw the launching of the state DBP 40th anniversary celebration.
Among the programmes to mark the anniversary is the creative writing contest, seminar on empowering the national language, poem declamation, Monodrama and theatre staging.
Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, presented the prizes to the winners.
Also present were DBP deputy director general Datuk Abang Salehuddin Abg Shokeran and state DBP director Dr Hazami Jahari.
