KANGAR: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry has advised the public not to panic over the spread of information about the threats of ‘WannaCry’ ransomware cyber attack occurring worldwide.

Instead, Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the public should refer to the relevant authorities about the information and to take precautions against the attack, such as installing anti-virus application on their gadgets and not to open any suspicious links.

“Many people have asked me whether or not the automated teller machines (ATM) will be shut down for two days due to the ransomware attack.

“What I can say is that the ministry has yet to receive any report from any individual or group who have fallen victims to the cyber attack,” he told reporters after the closing of the Asean@YoungFingertips 2017 programme graced by the Perlis Raja Muda Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail at Dataran Denai Larian here yesterday.

The minister said this in response to the viral message advising the public to withdraw their money immediately as the ATM would be shut down and that they should avoid making online transactions to prevent themselves from falling

victims to the cyber attack. – Bernama
