SIBU: Rejang Taekwondo Club (RTC) is sending a 31-strong contingent to the Sarawak Taekwondo Championship to be held in Kuching from May 19-21.
According to RTC chief coach Thomas Tang, the trip is a platform to gauge the standard of play of the players.
“This is a chance for my boys to showcase their skills and I believe we will be able to return with some respectable results,” he said.
The 31 athletes comprised nine from SMK Lanang with the rest from SMK Deshon, SJK (C) Tai Guan, SMK Chung Cheng and SMK Dalat.
Meanwhile, RTC adviser Kapitan Dato Janet Lau handed over the team colours to the contingent recently.
In her brief address, she called on the players to work hard and bring back some glory for Sibu.
Over 500 exponents from 19 affiliated clubs of Sarawak Taekwondo Association (STA) are expected to compete in the U-13, U-17 and U-18 categories of both the poomsee and free sparring events during the state-level championship.
