MIRI: A convoy of four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles snaked its way through the long route to Long Seridan from Miri to deliver public donations to the fire victims of this Kelabit longhouse in the interior of Baram last weekend.

Sarawak Hilux Club, along with Dmax Club Sarawak, Borneo Navara Club and Baram Off-Roaders Club, ganged-up for the mission to Long Seridan on May 13, lugging boxes of donations in a back-breaking drive.

A total of 11 vehicles set off on the journey at 4.30am and completed the journey over primary logging camp road networks nine hours later.

Donations were handed over by Sarawak Hilux Club’s president Franklyn Sam to a village disaster relief committee member at Long Seridan. He said the donations consisted of daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, mineral water,  sugar, instant noodles, toiletries and clothes.

Sarawak Hilux Club thanked all the generous donors for their kindness and support in reaching out to the fire victims.

A block of the longhouse was razed in a fire on April 30, the second major fire there in a month, following an April 11 fire which razed the Long Seridan government clinic.
