MIRI: The state Democratic Action Party (DAP) has yet to identify its candidate should a by-election be called in the Pujut state constituency.

State DAP secretary Alan Ling said so far the Election Commission (EC) has yet to announce whether there will be a by-election for the constituency.

“We will cross the bridge and look at the next course of direction if the EC announces any election that will take place

for DUN Pujut,” Ling told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

The Pujut seat became vacant after the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) voted to disqualify the DAP’s Dr Ting Tiong Choon as assemblyman under Article 17(1)(g) of the State Constitution because he was an Australian citizen.

The EC was officially notified of the vacant seat on Tuesday and under election laws a

by-election should be called within 60 days.

It is understood that DAP Miri has a few potential candidates to contest in the constituency including a lawyer.
