KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang yesterday praised the first Chinese Chief Minister of Sabah, Tan Sri Peter Lo for his great contributions to the State.
“After the concept of Malaysia was put forward by Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1961, being the first local lawyer in Sabah, Tan Sri Peter Lo was one of the leaders instrumental in drafting the 20 points safeguards for Sabah, which was subsequently incorporated into the Malaysia Agreement and the Federal Constitution.
“Now it is for us to ensure the 20 points were not drafted in vain,” he said.
As the Chief Minister of Sabah from 1965 to 1967, Lo had stood up for Sabah when we faced threats during the confrontation period, Teo added.
Teo, who is also the president of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said that after leading his party leaders to visit Lo at his residence here on Tuesday, where they learned more about the political landscape and history during the formation of Malaysia.
Also present were LDP treasurer general Albert Ngan, organizing secretary Peter Chong and chief publicity officer Albert Kok.
The LDP leaders also celebrated Lo’s 94th birthday in advance, much to the latter’s delight.
