LAHAD DATU: Security forces have taken seriously a police report lodged by a plantation worker who had seen

five men in camouflage pants with firearms near the river at Block 8 of the oil palm plantation in Felda Sahabat 2, Cenderawasih near here recently,  and stepped up security in the area.

A survey by Bernama found there was tight security control about seven kilometres before the location and members of the public as well as unrelated parties were not allowed into the area.

According to Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, to date there was no evidence found or arrest made related to the report lodged by the plantation worker.

In this regard, an observation at Anjung Teduh Felda Sahabat 2 found the surrounding areas were calm with residents going about their daily activities.

In Lahad Datu, about 110 kilometres from Felda Sahabat 2, shops were operating as usual and security forces were seen patrolling the streets.

Meanwhile Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Yusof Apdal told residents in the district not to listen to rumours or embellish the report by the plantation worker.

“We have experienced a tragedy in 2013 and now we are in a situation where security is assured whether on land or at sea..we need to be confident and trust the security forces to protect the district,” he said.

Yusof said the government would always ensure security in the district was under control to avoid an intrusion occurring again. — Bernama
