KOTA KINABALU: Centre Point Sabah (CPS) Shopping Mall’s month-long Rice UP! Tompinai (Friend) program is not only a Kaamatan celebration but also a contributing lifeline towards providing water supply to Kampung Tudan folks in Tuaran.

The program, which will be launched today by Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai here at 2pm at CPS Palm Square, aims to channel 10% of booth rental income from today till June 18 to the ingenious community there in order for them to have better clean water access.

“The Rice UP! Tompinai event is a celebration that gathers the locals and tourists. Apart from that, Centre Point Sabah aims to promote awareness to the Hopes Malaysia Welfare Association and its clean water project as Centre Point Sabah is blessed with the identification of Singgah Mata – where people gathered on the fresh water,” described Pan-Pacific Construction Holdings Sdn Bhd general manager Chang Tsai Chun at a press conference held at CPS here, yesterday.

“With the blessing of being the Singgah Mata, Centre Point Sabah also blesses the local community with a gift of safe clean drinking water for life and give hope, health for the indigenous community,” he added.
According to Chang, a variety of traditional products such as local snacks, handicraft, handbags, local printed T-shirts and many more will be available at the Ground Floor Kaamatan booths.

“The Kaamatan “Bamboo Hut” booth is inspired by the Kadazan-Dusun historical culture where the house is built with bamboo and dry leaves as their roof.

“Those in the attendance have the opportunity to see Kadazan-Dusun culture come to life while walking through the festival grounds at the ground floor event hall,” he said.

The vibrations of Kadazan-Dusun music and performances will be heard throughout the event at CPS.

The ever popular Andrew Lee is expected to host for the duration of five weeks, which will be filled with local dance and musical artist performances.

Major activities lined up to usher in visitors include the mighty Titan Showdown Mipolos Competition on May 27, Rice Up! Voice Singing competition on June 4, and Kids Harvest Talent Show on June 10.

In addition, Barakuda (a local band which had performed at Sabah Fest and KK Jazzfest) will be making an appearance and the much anticipated Rich from Sabah’s Estranged will meet and greet fans during the closing ceremony of the event.

Great redemption and lucky draw prizes are also up for grabs on May 30 and 31.

Purchases amounting to RM50 at the Bamboo Huts at CPS Ground Floor will buy patrons a chance at soft toys, 6D Motion Tickets and carnival game vouchers.

The grand lucky draw for an OPPO or Neffos smartphone is scheduled between June 1 and 18.

To gain a lucky draw entry, visitors of the shopping mall need only collect a minimum purchase of RM100 (accumulated within a maximum of two receipts) at any outlets with official receipts within CPS Shopping Mall.
