Man held over 3,000 turtle eggs in Sandakan

The man with 3,000 turtle eggs in his pump boat.

SANDAKAN: Marine Police here confiscated 3,000 turtle eggs with estimated value of RM4,800 at the waters near Kampung Forest, Mile 1.5, yesterday morning.

According to commanding officer of Sandakan Marine Police ACP Mohd Yazib Bin Abd. Aziz, in the incident around 3.30am the Marine Police patrol team detected a suspicious pump boat from the sea area heading towards the waters of Kampung Forest.

The patrol team gave chase and intercepted the pump boat which was steered by a 40-year old man identified as Silik B. Mubas, who did not have valid identification document.

Mohd Yazid said further inspection of the boat, police found five plastic sacks and ten plastic bags containing turtle eggs believed to be smuggled into Sandakan from a neigbouring country.

The suspect, his pump boat and all confiscated turtle eggs were then brought to Sandakan Marine Police base for further investigation by the Sandakan Wildlife Department.

The case will be investigated under Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
