KOTA KINABALU: A local man was killed while his passenger friend suffered a broken shoulder when the Proton Saga car they were travelling in rammed into a tree at Jalan Coastal, near Sutera Harbour Resort in Sembulan, early yesterday morning.

Amiljon Bin Musid, 40, from Kampung Peringatan Petagas, who was behind the wheel, died at the scene while his 51-year-old front passenger suffered a broken shoulder in the 3.45am incident.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said both men were heading to Kepayan from the city centre when the victim apparently lost control of the car which skidded on the road before hitting the tree.

Both victims were pinned to their respective seats and the state Fire and Rescue personnel took about an hour to free them.

“Amiljon was pronounced dead at the scene while the front passenger was taken to the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1,” he said.

Police urged eyewitness to come forward to assist in their investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
