MIRI: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) wishes to contest in the Pujut state seat should a by-election be called following the disqualification of Dr Ting Tiong Choon as its assemblyman by the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) last week.

State commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said PAS is keen to stand in Pujut to show that it is a multiracial party.

“PAS is ready to contest for the Pujut by-election,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted Thursday.

“PAS will field its candidate for the Pujut by-election. However, the name of the candidate will not be given until the PAS central committee announces it.”

Jofri also called on the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to give way to the party.

Dr Ting, from the DAP, was disqualified under Article 17(1)(g) of the State Constitution for holding Australian citizenship.
