PM to join world’s Muslim leaders for summit with Trump

RIYADH: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will join the world’s Arab and Muslim leaders for a summit with United States President Donald Trump on Sunday in this capital city of Saudi Arabia.

Najib is among the leaders, including King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Trump, slated to address the historic meeting, with security and combating terrorism high on the agenda.

The Arab-Islamic-US Summit will see the convergence of more than 50 Arab and Muslim national leaders at the King Abdulaziz Convention Centre, here, named after the first monarch of Saudi Arabia.

Najib is scheduled to arrive here today, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Defence Minister and Minister with Special Functions Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Other Muslim leaders invited for the summit include King Abdullah II of Jordan, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Saudi Arabia will be the first country Trump visits since becoming president in January.

During the three-day working visit starting Saturday, Najib is expected to have an audience with King Salman; Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Naif Al-Saud, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Al-Saud, who is also the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence. — Bernama
