THE government has allocated RM148,000 to fix the wiring issues that have crippled SMK Merapok in Lawas for nearly six months.

Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee announced the allocation during a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) media room yesterday.

“The warrant had been issued to the Public Works Department (JKR) in April and it will take about two months to process including scope of works,” he said in response to viral social media posts highlighting the problem on Thursday.

“The tender will be out next month.”

A complaint directed at state education director Rakayah Madon was shared on Facebook on Thursday, claiming a lack of urgency in addressing the crucial issue.

According to the post, the boarding school has been without electricity for nearly six months due to wiring problems.

Other than the uncomfortable environment for teaching and learning, IT classes have also had to be cancelled.
