Serian FA vs Gua Musang in LBR finale tomorrow

KUCHING: The second edition of the Liga Bolasepak Rakyat (LBR) or the Community League will come to an end tomorrow when Serian FA take on Gua Musang in the 9pm final at Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya.

Serian FA, coached by Rozaimi Romainor, certainly have the edge as they beat Gua Musang 1-0 in the first leg in Kota Bharu last Saturday (May 13) and are having the home ground advantage.

LBR chief executive officer Azizul Kamar Abdul Rahman said after almost eight months of competition, the champions would be known tomorrow.

“This is the second year that LBR is organised and 108 teams from throughout the country including Sabah and Sarawak are taking part through various zones.

“We are certainly hoping that the final this Sunday will be exciting and entertaining,” he said in a press conference at a local hotel yesterday.

According to Azizul, more than 80 LBR players are now with state or club teams vying for various honours in the Super League, Premier League, FAM League, President Cup and Youth Cup competitions this year.

“Moreover, a few Serian FA and Gua Musang players are being eyed by several local league teams. Apart from that, LBR has expanded its wings in unearthing new talents by introducing the Liga Bolasepak Rakyat Wanita (Women’s Community Shield) where 15 teams are taking part in its first season.

“This is certainly an achievement that we can all be proud of because this is the main objective of organising LBR,” said Azizul.
