SARAWAK Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has identified 20 strategic projects to enhance economic activities in the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said among the projects were agro-based business, fishery-based industry, food processing industry, livestock and poultry worth RM2.8 billion.

The projects are expected to create over 3,000 employment opportunities in the next five years, he said in his winding-up speech yesterday.

“The development of Tanjung Manis will take time and it is not correct (for Padungan assemblyman) to say that the development of Tanjung Manis is a white elephant.”

He said the state remains a preferred investment destination over the years, maintaining its top three position in the country since 2013.

He also said the state has received a proposed investment for Petronas Floating LNG 1 projects in 20016 amounting to

RM6.4 billion which is currently pending approval by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
