SIBU: Three state throwers left for Thailand yesterday to compete in the 2nd Asian Youth Championship, to be held in Bangkok from May 20 to 23.

They are Ngu Ing Biao from Sarikei SMK Tinggi, Fabian Sia from Bintangor SMK Tong Hua and Kee Jee Wen from Miri SMK Riam Road, all are 17 years old.

Coach Liong Shueng Keong said this is the first time the trio representing the country.

“Our target is to qualify for the top five,” he said.

Of the three, Ngu is the more experienced, having recently lifted the national U-17 discuss title.

“Sia is the hammer throw champion in the making and all eyes will be on him to take over the mantle once the seniors retire while Kee is a rising star for the shot putt event,” Liong added.

Athletes from 44 countries are expected to take part in the championship. Sarawakians failed to shine at the last Asian championship held in Qatar.
