KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg aims to change the landscape of Petra Jaya with further development.
Abang Johari, who is Satok assemblyman, said his plans are achievable and not what DAP Sarawak described as “hot air” (sweet empty promises).
“Hopefully by three to seven years I will try to change the landscape of Petra Jaya. My plan is not hot air,” he said when officiating at the prize presentation ceremony for the P194 Petra Jaya Golf Challenge Trophy tournament at a leading hotel here on Sunday night.
He also rubbished a claim by DAP that the state government will be using state reserves to finance the cost of development, pointing out that he will be using another or new model when implementing development projects.
“If (Singapore premier) Lee Kuan Yew can do it for Singapore, why can’t we?” he said.
Abang Johari also insisted that other plans like having a state-owned airline system and improving the sectors of agropolitan, modernised agriculture and eco- tourism are all achievable if, among other things, the usage of digitalised promotion is enhanced.
“That is why we need (to expand) broadband connnections. If the Internet speed is fast, our connectivity with the rest of the world would be better. This is one way to develop our tourism sector further, for instance,” he said.
He also wished to see sports tourism improved by attracting enthusiasts and sportsmen to international golf, fishing and badminton tournaments and other related activities to be held in Sarawak.
Based on the positive feedback he obtained, the chief minister said it is already proven that Sarawak is capable of holding international events.
