MIRI: Police believe the motive behind the alleged shooting of a woman in Serian by a police officer yesterday (May 21) in Kampung Kakai, Serian was due to personal issues.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said early investigations revealed that the motive was personal and that the suspect will be remanded today for further investigation.

When asked about the relationship between the suspect and deceased, Mazlan said based on records, the suspect is a divorcee.

“Unless he (suspect) can prove he is married to the deceased,” he said.

When asked about the pistol used by the suspect in the shooting, Mazlan said the suspect was attending a meeting in Kuching prior to the incident.

“He was allowed to carry the gun as he was coming all the way from Belaga to Kuching for the meeting.

“He was supposed to go back to Belaga as soon as the meeting finished yesterday,” he added.

The suspect was arrested at around 9.35pm last night in the vicinity of Emart in Matang.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
