SIBU: There is a plan to build a new polyclinic at a cost of RM40 million in Sibu, Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee disclosed, saying a suitable place for it has yet to be found though.

The proposed clinic will be able to cater for 500 to 800 patients per day, he added.

He said: “We need a few polyclinics to serve certain residential areas. Sibu definitely needs another polyclinic to cater for the growing need for healthcare services among the residents.”

Dr Annuar told reporters this after his first visit to the Oya Road Polyclinic in his capacity as Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health yesterday.

He was accompanied by Sarawak Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim and Sibu divisional health officer Dr Muhammad Rais Abdullah.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, said the location would ideally be at one of the new housing estates.

“It will be a federally-funded project,” he pointed out.
