Traffic police officer remanded for alleged bribery

KUCHING: A traffic police officer with the rank of inspector stationed at Kuching district police station has been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation of a bribery case.

The 35-years-old officer was detained at the State Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here at about 10pm on Monday.

He was brought to the Sessions Court here at 10am today.

The remand, effective until May 28, was ordered by Sessions Court judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong who allowed the application made by MACC officer Katherina Nais.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The officer allegedly received a bribe amounting to RM4,500 from a man who was suspected to have committed a road traffic offence.
