Singapore seizes 5,000 cartons of contraband fags from Malaysia-registered truck

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) yesterday seized 5,000 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a Malaysia-registered truck at the Tuas Checkpoint.

In a statement here, the ICA said its officers had noticed anomalies in the scanned images of the truck which was conveying a consignment declared as air-conditioning units.

During the course of checks, ICA officers found the contraband cigarettes concealed within the consignment.

ICA said the driver – a 38-year-old Malaysian man -, cigarettes and truck were handed over to the Singapore Customs for investigations.

The vehicle used in the commission of such offences is liable to be forfeited, it said. — Bernama
