KUCHING: State Sukma gymnast Audrey Jude Rendih Alexander will be representing Malaysia in the Singapore Open Artistic Gymnastics Championship from June 2 to 7.

The 14-year-old student from SMK St Mary will be competing in four events namely vault, uneven bar, balance beam and floor exercise.

This is the second time Audrey is competing at the Singapore Open after bagging silver medals in the vault and floor exercise last year.

Together with her was Cassandra Lavigne Shelden who won the silver in the uneven bar.

Also in this year’s team are four boys and one girl from other states.

Sarawak Amateur Gymnastic Association (Sagma) president Helena Christine Wee was happy and proud that Audrey had been selected for national duty again.

“We had actually four gymnasts selected for national duty but Esmelda and Cassandra are injured while Alli Hamuda will be sitting for his examination.

“This is a very good exposure for Audrey to participate in an international competition especially in preparation for Sukma Perak next year,” she said.

MSNS coach Gergana Kostadinova Momchilova, who will be accompanying Audrey to Singapore, hoped that she can do better than last year and bring glory not only to Sarawak but also the country.

The young gymnast won a bronze in the floor exercise and gold in the team event in Sukma Sarawak last year.

“This competition will serve as an exposure ground for Audrey who will be competing in her first competition this year. She has been training very hard for this event at the Sarawak Gymnasium,” she said.

According to Gergana, Audrey had been training under her and her husband Bogomil Ivanov Momchilov for seven years and was a disciplined athlete who follows instructions well.
