KOTA KINABALU: Luyang assemblyman Hiew King Cheu said cooperation among the opposition parties in Sabah is impossible though they are trying very hard to form an alliance aiming to take over power and to form the state government after the 14th general election.
“When we view the whole situation on what the opposition parties are trying to do, maybe we can conclude by saying that they are just painting a beautiful picture to be admired only and without any practicality which can bring benefits to Sabahans.
“It is true that these opposition parties are having their own private agenda and are all fighting among themselves to be the head of the opposition alliance.
“The question now is who in the proposed alliance is qualified and eligible to lead or even be the future Chief Minister of Sabah?” asked Hiew.
He said that in the past, there were only three opposition parties in Pakatan Rakyat in Sabah, namely PKR, PAS and DAP, and the seat negotiation for the GE 13 was a mess.
“The final decision was made and intervened later by their KL leaders, even though autonomy was signed over to the state leadership for them to gain full control in the state.
“The people are wondering how these opposition parties, namely PKR, PAS, DAP, SAPP, PCS, STAR, Parti Harapan, Parti Warisan, and many others including some smaller parties in Sabah can reach a compromise on the allocation of seats and who shall lead.”
Hiew opined that at this juncture, the fight for the Sabah State Assembly opposition leader already showed the opposition parties lack the spirit of give and take, and it demonstrated fully that cooperation among them is totally impossible.
“To date, nothing has been resolved and Lajim Ukim is claiming that he is still the opposition leader in the Sabah state assembly, and not PKR’s Christina Liew who was elected by the opposition front to be their leader. “A few opposition parties in Sabah are not willing to cooperate with other parties in Sabah and are having thoughts of “winner takes all,” he said, adding that they even made an open announcement in the local press and social media.
Hiew felt that whatever the opposition are trying to do to gain support from the people, by the end of the day, it is still the voters who will decide.
He said that the people are smart with eyes and minds open to choose the right people to form the next Sabah government.
“The ability, creditability and trustworthiness of the Barisan Nasional (BN) with a proven service record of 23 years in Sabah will be the prime factor for them to consider to return to be the next Sabah government.
“So why bother to waste time on the opposition, just leave them to do what they wish. We shall stand in solidarity to support BN. There is a good old Chinese proverb quote that ‘Better to work with the known than the unknown,’ ” he said.
