KOTA KINABALU: Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai has warned that the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will temporarily close any stalls in the Ramadan bazaar if the operators fail to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at their outlets.

He said City Hall’s enforcement personnel would be constantly monitoring the bazaar sites from time to time during the Ramadan period.

“We recommend operators to always keep their stalls clean as most of them have been in the business for many years and they should know about cleanliness,” he said during an Iftar (breaking of fast) with media members at Sutera Harbor Resort here on Saturday.

Yeo said 35 Ramadan Bazaar sites have been set up in and around Kota Kinabalu this year, an increase of five areas from 2016 involving more than 1,000 stalls.

The five new Ramadan bazaar sites are located at Wisma Merdeka, 1Borneo Hypermall and the Oceanus Waterfront Mall.

Commenting on Pacific Sutera Harbor’s breaking of fast theme – Selera Kampung Buffet – for this year’s concept, the mayor praised the concept as it allows customers to enjoy their meal in a traditional village atmosphere.

“Congratulations to Gerald Tan (Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sutera Harbor Resort) for his initiative in introducing a concept like this,” said Yeo.
