KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP deputy chairman Dr Edwin Bosi has been suspended for three months from the party with effect from May 29.

Sabah DAP secretary Chan Foong Hin said Dr Bosi remained the party’s state deputy president and Kapayan assemblyman but had been suspended from official party duties for the next three months.

The decision to suspend him was made by the disciplinary committee following a complaint by the DAP Sabah State Committee alleging Dr Bosi of tarnishing the party’s reputation through various adverse statements he had made to the media.

The letter of Dr Bosi’s suspension issued by Tai Sin Pau, secretary of the disciplinary committee, was emailed to the media yesterday.

It stated that the Disciplinary Committee had deliberated on the complaint of the state committee and found evidence that Dr Bosi had made repeated public statements and comments in the media threatening to quit the party, including joining another party or contesting as an independent candidate in the event that he would not be retained as a candidate in the 14th general election.

“You had made repeated public statements and comments in the media that you have no trust in the Sabah DAP chairman Stephen Wong and accusing him of having poor leadership. Your public statements and comments were reported in the local printed media and you did not make any categorical denials of these reports.

“For the above, it is evident that you have failed to conduct yourself in a manner befitting of a responsible member, leader and elected representative of the party. You have failed to place the interest of the party above your own and did not utilize internal channels to raise your grouses,” the letter said.

It also said Dr Bosi’s action had not only undermined the Sabah DAP leadership but had also tarnished the party’s reputation and exposed it to unfair criticism.

“In view of the seriousness of your action, the Disciplinary Committee has decided to suspend your membership in the party for three months with immediate effect. You are advised to refrain from making any further adverse statements in the media that will jeopardise the party’s image, failing which the Disciplinary Committee will not hesitate to take any further appropriate action against you,” it said.

Dr Bosi has 14 days to appeal in writing against the decision.

Dr Bosi when contacted for a response replied: “I was informed about my suspension by DAP Sabah secretary Chan through WhatsApp but I have not opened my email yet. I will respond  when I have read the letter of suspension.

“I have never attacked or condemned the party, only the chairman Stephen Wong who has stabbed our backs just because he wanted to be the party leader. My suspension therefore tells me that an untrustworthy leader can be tolerated,” he said.

On what his next course of action would be, Dr Bosi said he would decide after consulting his supporters.
