Four electric cables theft suspects held

KOTA KINABALU: Four people, including a woman, were arrested by police for stealing 4.34 meters of electric cables belonging to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) at Jalan Aru Anjung Perdana at Pantai Tanjung Aru 1 here on Monday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the suspects aged between 25 and 34 years old, including a 26-year-old woman, were detained by police around 6am.

Police investigation revealed that the suspects had admitted to stealing the underground electric cables which were connected to the SESB transformer in Tanjung Aru.

“Police also seized numerous items used by the suspects in their crime activities such as a modified lawn mower that was fitted with a grinder to cut the electric cables, metal cutters, a transformer fuse, a Toyota Vios car and the stolen electric cables about 4.34 meters in length,” he said yesterday.

Chandra added that the three men tested positive for drug absue and all the suspects would be remanded for four days until June 2 to be investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code  which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine. or both.
