MIRI: The Sarawakian tradition of visiting each other during festive seasons must be preserved to maintain unity and harmony among the people.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said Sarawakians, especially the younger generation, must not take the state’s unity for granted.

“The next generation must continue the culture of wishing each other or visiting during any festive season like Gawai, Raya and Chinese New Year – a unique practice for decades – to improve rapport among the various ethnic groups in Sarawak,” she said during a Gawai Dayak visit on Thursday.

The Bekenu assemblywoman stressed that unity is vital because there can be no progress and development when the people are fighting each other.

She said this could be seen happening in other countries.
