MIRI: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) has distributed financial aid totalling RM98,000 to 98 mosque and suraus across this division – including four in Bakong District.

According to TBS general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Nailie, the funds are meant to assist the committees of these houses of worship in running their activities throughout the month of Ramadan.

“This aid is also meant to encourage the local Muslims to be more active in activities run by the mosque and surau committees.

“In this year alone, TBS has distributed a total of RM1.378 million to mosques and suraus across Sarawak, out of which RM178,000 is for Miri Division,” said Abang Mohd Shibli, whose text of speech was read TBS Miri head Marini Juraibi during the presentation ceremony at Miri Islamic Complex recently.

Abang Mohd Shibli said apart from the financial assistance, there are also other types of aid provided by TBS under its three main programmes – the ‘Strengthening of Traditional Knowledge’, Enhancement of Community Welfare’ and ‘Development of Islamic Institutions’.

He said last year through these three programmes, TBS distributed RM27.63 million to eligible recipients, while up to April this year, the organisation allocated RM10.97 million through these programmes.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus was present to hand over the funds to the recipients yesterday, witnessed by Miri District Officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf.
