KUALA LUMPUR: Noor Shahidatun Nadia Mohammad Zuki aims to break the national record in the women’s long jump at Kosanov Memorial Athletics Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan next month.
The national women’s long jump record is held by Noor Amira Mohamad Nafiah who jumped a distance of 6.29 metres at the Asian Athletics Championships in Wuhan, China, in 2015.
“My personal best is 6.24 metres, which is not far from the national record.
“Should I fail to break the national record in Kazakhstan, I can still have an other go at the Malaysian Open Athletics Championships also next month,” she told Bernama recently.
Noor Shahidatun has not set any goal in Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August where he will take part in the two events, the long jump and triple jump.
She will have R Kirthana for company.
The Kedah lass missed the Myanmar SEA Games in 2013 due to an ankle injury and also had to forgo the Singapore SEA Games in 2015 since she was undergoing treatment in China.
“There is no pressure on me in the SEA Games since the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) has not set any goal and only wants me to give my best.
“Finishing on podium will be difficult to achieve because Olympic class athletes from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam will also participate in Kuala Lumpur SEA Games,” she added. — Bernama
