BETONG: The Health Department issued closure orders for three unsanitary eateries here on Wednesday while carrying out ‘Ops Premis Bersih’ and ‘Ops Ramadan’.

Under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983, the operators have two weeks from the day of closure to carry out cleaning work and comply with directives given by the department to ensure the premises are clean.

Betong divisional health officer Dr Johnny Pangkas called on all eatery operators to prioritise the cleanliness and hygiene of their premises including the toilets, as well as storage and food preparation areas. He said the necessary precautions would prevent food poisoning among customers.

Dr Johnny also reminded food handlers to use proper attire including aprons and caps as well as to practise proper personal hygiene at all times.

“Those food operators and food handlers who fail to comply with the order could be compounded under the Food Regulations 2009,” he stressed.

The department also carried checks on the Ramadan Bazaar to ensure the food sold by stallholders is safe for consumption. Traders were also advised to practise good hygiene while operating at the bazaar.
