Police bring end to foreigners’ bike theft spree

The two foreigners being led to the police station following their arrest.

MIRI: Two foreigners were arrested by police on Saturday for their alleged involvement in several motorcycle thefts in the city over the past few months.

The duo, in their 30s, was picked up by the police in front of a house at Taman Gilbert around 11.15pm and found to be in possession of a tool believed to be used to steal motorcycles.

District police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrests when contacted yesterday, saying the duo admitted during questioning to being active in stealing motorcycles in the city.

“Both admitted to having stolen three motorcycles in the city and had disposed of these motorcycles at Bakong junction. They were both also involved in abusing drugs,” Lim said.

The suspects have been remanded for four days to facilitate investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, and also Section 6(1)(a) of the Immigration Act for not having any valid document to stay and work in the country.
