Police shoots motorcycle thief

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Crime detective police of North Banjarmasin shot the perpetrator of motor vehicle theft for trying to escape when he was about to be arrested, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Banjarmasin police chief Sr Comr (Kombes) Anjar Wicaksana Sik here on Monday said the thief, with initial DA (30), is a resident of Basirih urban village, South Banjarmasin.

DA was shot in the right calf. He was known as the brain of motor vehicle theft, and also a former drug convict.

DA was arrested on Saturday (10/6) night at around 22:30 on Jalan Brigjen Hasan Basri precisely in front of Pesona Hotel, North Banjarmasin.

In addition to arresting DA, police arrested his colleague, RA (30), who helped DA performed the theft of motor vehicles.

“We have captured both the perpetrators and evidence of a black Honda Vario and also one Sony PVJ laptop,” he said accompanied by North Banjarmasin police chief and head of crime detective second inspector (Ipda) Arya Widjaya STK.

Police chief said DA and RA were named as suspects and charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft and denial.

“We urge the public to always be vigilant against any form of crime during Ramadan which may be increased,” he said.
