3 of 12 packages of Pan Borneo Highway project slightly delayed

SIBU: The Pan Borneo Highway project is progressing smoothly thus far, with work in some areas ahead of schedule.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said three packages were slightly delayed and nine of the 12-package project were ahead of schedule.

The stretches ‘ahead of schedule’ included the Nyabau-Bakun stretch where the actual completion rate is 29.5 per cent versus 27 per cent schedule, which is 2.5 per cent ahead of schedule; Telok Melano to Sematan: 24.5 per cent (actual) versus 13.4 per cent (schedule), ahead by 11 per cent; Sematan to Sungai Moyan Bridge and KSR Interchange: 0.8 per cent (actual) vs 0.2 per cent (schedule), ahead by 0.6 per cent; Pantu-Batang Skrang: 11.9 per cent (actual) vs 0.6 per cent (schedule), ahead 11.3 per cent; Sungai Awik Bridge to Bintangor Intersection: 0.7 per cent (actual) vs 0.1 per cent (schedule), ahead by 0.6 per cent.

Bintangor intersection to Sungai Kua Bridge: 7.2 per cent (actual) vs 3.3 per cent (schedule), ahead by 3.9 per cent; Sungai Kua Bridge to Sungai Arip Bridge: 1.2 per cent (actual) vs 0.7 per cent (schedule), ahead by 0.5 per cent; Sungai Arip Bridge to Bintulu Airport Intersection: 1.2 per cent (actual) vs 0.73 per cent (schedule), ahead by 0.5 per cent; and Sungai Tangap to Pujut Link Road: 2.0 per cent (actual) vs 0.1 per cent (schedule), ahead by 1.9 per cent.

“There are three packages experiencing slight delay due to land acquisition matter,” Fadillah said.

They are Serian Roundabout to Pantu Intersection where the actual completion is 5.0 per cent against schedule of 6.4 per cent – delay by 1.4 per cent; Batang Skrang to Sungai Awik: 1.2 per cent (actual) vs 1.5 per cent (schedule) delay of 0.3 per cent; and Mile 5-Nyabau Flyover and Bakun Intersection to Sungai Tangap: 1.8 per cent (actual) vs 4 per cent (schedule) – delay of 2.2 per cent.

“I believe we will be able to catch up. Overall, the Pan Borneo Highway project is progressing smoothly thus far,” the Petra Jaya MP told reporters after the breaking of fast at Sibu Muslim Welfare Trust Board’s (Lakis) hall in An-Nur Mosque here on Monday.

The event organised by Nangka Service Centre was attended by the chairmen, heads of youth and women’s wings of PBB branches here, namely Bukit Assek, Dudong, Bawang Assan, Pelawan and Nangka.

Touching on the six bridges, Fadillah said Sungai Rimbas Bridge in Pusa (Betong) was currently 93 per cent completed, while Samarahan Bridge 70 per cent completed.

“Four bridges under planning are Batang Rambungan Bridge which is at the stage of appointing consultants, building of a flyover at Jalan Medan Jaya-Jalan Tun Hussein Onn in Bintulu (consultant already appointed and now at design stage), building of Batang Igan Bridge (tender expected in Sept, 2017) and Batang Lupar Bridge (consultant appointed and tender expected in mid 2018),” Fadillah added.
