SEMPORNA: People are urged not to politicize the assistance given by the government to the people, which aims to help the people.

Assistant Minister of Finance Datuk Ramlee Marahaban said the assistance provided, especially in the month of Ramadan, was to ease the people’s burden.

Ramlee said the assistance had no political element and was given based on the sincerity of the leaders.

“It has become routine as a leader for us to share with the people, especially the needy and the aid should not be politicized.

“Giving assistance has been our practice since a long time ago, and it’s not done seasonally but all the time to help people,” he added.

Ramlee, who is also Bugaya assemblyman, said this after presenting contributions to 2,500 individuals at Majlis Tautan Kasih yesterday.

Earlier on in his speech, he said the people should not believe in the propaganda created by irresponsible parties which claimed the assistance given by the government was to gain support and to win votes.

Ramlee said the propaganda was only intended to discredit the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, but he believes that people are also aware of this.

“We have been serving the people since a long time ago and reach out to people regardless of time because our main goal is to help them,” he said.

Ramlee, who is also the State Umno information deputy head, also said BN always practised the attitude of openness to ensure all issues could be resolved amicably.

He said the attitude of openness enable any issues to be resolved through discussion (Musyawarah).

He added that BN leaders also made disputes or misunderstanding as a ‘point’ to further strengthen relationship and cooperation.
