KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman called on more government bodies and corporate businesses to emulate the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation’s (YaPEIM’s) welfare programmes during Ramadan.

The Chief Minister said the YaPEIM ‘Inspirasi Ramadan’ programme was organised to extend its contributions to orphans and the needy in Malaysian states so they could all celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.

“On behalf of the state government, I welcome and look forward to YaPEIM’s efforts in organising programmes that are not only filled with good deeds, but also a platform for the presentation of donations to orphans and the needy in the state.

“I am confident and believe that YaPEIM will continue such programmes in the years to come with a different approach and strategy to sympathise with the community according to the changing times,” said Musa in a speech delivered by Assistant Industrial Development Minister Datuk Bolkiah Haji Ismail during YaPEIM’s organised state-level ceremony hosted by the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque here yesterday.

He also pointed out that YaPEIM was established to address society’s concerns in a realistic, integrated, strategic and professional manner through enhancing socio-economic status, strengthening traditional knowledge, welfare fortification and advancing the Islamic institution for community development.

“In this context, I believe YaPEIM has taken a holistic approach to answer the government’s call, implementing a National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) approach to formulate policies and initiatives through programmes and partnerships alongside the Ministry of Education (MOE) with full cooperation by the State Education Department (JPN), District Education Office (PPD) and educators nationwide.

“I hope that more organisations, departments, agencies and even the corporate sector will emulate YaPEIM’s efforts to assist the government in helping the needy. This is the time and best opportunity for us to share the benefits of the progress and prosperity enjoyed,” Musa added.

The YaPIEM state-level ‘Inspirasi Ramadan’, one of the three YaPIEM’s ‘Inspirasi’ programmes this year, saw RM120,000 in contribution given to orphans and the needy in Sabah.

RM100 in cash and RM20 worth of goodies were each extended to 1,500 people, 1,000 orphans and needy children, identified by the PPDs and schools in 26 districts throughout Sabah, as well as 500 educators and the local community yesterday.

According to YaPIEM director general and group CEO Dato’ Abibullah Samsudin, a total of RM1.4 million has been allocated for Sabah out of YaPEIM’s RM10 million nationwide budget for 2017.

Abibullah said 181,899 people from 3,423 schools will benefit from the programme in Malaysia this year.

The total amount in budget for the three state-level ‘Inspirasi’ 2017 programmes come up to RM1.4 million, involving 22,264 people from 477 schools.

Overall, Abibullah said the nationwide figure aimed to benefit 181,899 people from 3,423 schools.

RM3.7 million was also allocated for 78,888 people through the national ‘Inspirasi SPM 2017’ programme, benefiting recipients in 152 districts and 1,520 PPDs throughout every state in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Abibullah said YaPIEM’s Shariah-friendly business programmes also include the Ar-Rahnu pawnshop, which has collected RM24 billion in gold since its establishment in 1993.

He also noted that three mobile Ar-Rahnu vans will be implemented in Sabah this year, adding to its existing 208 branches and mobile bus service nationwide.

Furthermore, Abibullah revealed the Ar-Rahnu interest free services will also be expanded throughout Asean countries, starting with Indonesia this year, and plans are afoot for a branch in Cambodia.

YaPIEM will also be expanding in the hotel chain industry, with plans already in motion for a hotel in Perak as well as Bandar Sunway in Petaling Jaya, he said. YaPIEM also aims to open hotels along Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.

He added YaPIEM also envisions the establishment of hotels in Asean countries including in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, as well as Medan, Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia.
