KUCHING: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) has to abide by the High Court’s decision to reinstate  Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assemblyman.

According to Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Dr Ting has exercised his rights and that justice has been served.

“Still, it is up for the prosecuting team to act upon the decision, whether or not they aim to seek for a review on the High Court decision,” said Wan Junaidi – also vice-president of PBB, the state BN backbone party – when met after presenting assistance to the fire victims of Kampung Tabuan Hilir near here yesterday.

On the fire incident, the minister said he would be looking at ways to assist the six house-owners, who were left homeless after fire razed their house to the ground on June 13.

“We will look at how to help them rebuild their homes. The Darul Hana village expansion (project) is still a long way to go; we will look at relocating them to some other places first,” said Wan Junaidi, who is Santubong MP.

For one of the victims Nur Asikin Ahmad, she accepted the fate of losing her house, which she just bought a year ago.

“I was living there alone. Luckily, most of my belongings are still at my parents’ house in Kampung Bintawa Tengah.

“I was told that there were children playing with firecrackers (prior to the incident); it is claimed that they were playing beneath my house, which might have led to the fire,” she added.

Nur Asikin, who is staying at her parents’ house for the time being, expressed her gratitude to Wan Junaidi and the volunteers from his Santubong Service Centre, as well as other Good Samaritans who were quick to respond to the situation and assist all the families affected by the fire.
