KUCHING: The Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS) will be holding a fund-raising run this year which they claim to be the biggest ever organised by the Catholic Church in the state.

According to the event’s organising committee, the main objective of the run is to raise RM2.5 million for seven beneficiaries namely Home of Peace, Catholic Service Centre, CWS Samaritans, Society of St Vincent de Paul, Meals of Urban Poor (through SKUP), Archbishop’s Disaster Relief Fund and rural parishes.

Sept 9 has been chosen as the date for the run, known as the ‘Catholic Services Charity Run 2017’ and Archbishop of Kuching Most Reverend Simon Poh is expected to flag-off the run.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference held at the ACCPC Building yesterday, Peter Ho who heads the working committee for the event said they are expecting some 10,000 participants for the run.

The run is divided into two categories namely the eight kilometres and the three kilometres (family run) and registration for the run is now open.

“Those who participate in this run will get a free t-shirt. Participants will be given a sponsor card which is to be used to collect sponsors or donations,” he added.

Each sponsor card must have a minimum collection of RM80 and donors have the choice to write down their names on the sponsor cards as well.

All sponsor cards must be returned before noon on Aug 12 and t-shirts can be collected from the organisers from Jul 1 onwards.

Should participants wish to not collect sponsors, they can pay a registration fee of RM80 instead. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of race or religious background.

City Joger’s Club will provide technical support for the organisers during the event.
