KUCHING: The Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth respects the Kuching High Court’s decision to reinstate Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assemblyman.

Its Youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof said the decision showed that the country’s administration was transparent and based on legislation.

“We honour whatsoever decision made by the High Court. If they said there is no need for a by-election in Pujut, then let it be,” he told

reporters after distributing  bubur lambuk to commuters at Kampung Tupong Jaya here yesterday.

Fadillah, who is also Minister of Works, said the decision itself was proof that there’s freedom of the court in Malaysia.

This, he added, proved that the country’s democratic and administrative system followed the structure of its constitution and legislation.

“Sometimes, when the verdict is not in their favour, people said our Court is influenced by the government.

“But now it proves that it does not happen as what some people liked to think,” he said.

The High Court here yesterday restored DAP’s Dr Ting Tiong Choon’s position as Pujut assemblyman with immediate effect.

The court was ruling on an Originating Summons filed by Dr Ting challenging his disqualification by the state assembly on May 12.

The court also ordered that the Speaker, Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who tabled the motion to disqualify Dr Ting, and the state assembly to pay cost of RM100,000 to Dr Ting.
