KUCHING: The traffic light intersection at Jalan FAC/Kampung Pasir Pandak will greatly benefit the local villagers as the road there is accident-prone, says Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

According to him, the project comes under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for Pantai Damai state constituency where he is the assemblyman.

“This traffic light intersection is the second one in the area. The first one at Bandar Baru Semariang was commissioned last year. This (Jalan FAC/Pasir Pandak) intersection is important in ensuring the safety of the villagers, who use the road every day,” he said at the launch ceremony yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman said the road is very long and thus, this necessitates traffic lights.

“On average, 30 to 40 projects have been suggested under the RTP since 2015, with this traffic light being one of them for this year. Other projects include public utilities, halls and drains.”

The Jalan FAC/Kampung Pasir Pandak traffic light project is built at a cost of RM380,000.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) director Jumaini Haili was also present at the event.
