SANDAKAN: Two sisters were robbed by men armed with swords at a hotel in Bandar Tyng here on Saturday.

According to Sandakan police chief ACP Mohd Azhar bin Hamin, police had received a report at 1.45am about the robbery at Hotel Tyng Garden, Bandar Tyng, at Mile 6, Labuk road.

“In the incident that took place at around midnight, a 24-year-old staff working on night shift at the hotel, heard a loud noise outside. When she and her sister went out to inspect, they saw a man wearing a face mask and holding a sword running towards the hotel. The man then threatened both women with his sword and asked them to hand over their valuables,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Later, another member of the armed gang, who also wore a face mask, entered the hotel. Fearing that they would be harmed, the staff handed over the hotel’s money box containing RM1,500 and four mobile phones. The loss was estimated at around RM3,500.

Both women managed to escape and locked themselves in the hotel’s toilet.

After the two robbers had fled from the hotel, they sought the help of the security guard who was behind the hotel building.

The robbery was recorded by the hotel’s CCTV.

According to Mohd Azhar, the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, and police are calling on the public with information of this incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Rajis Taruti at 089-242222 or 019-3538505.
