BINTULU: Ten longhouses at Similajau near here held their ‘Ngiling Bidai’ ceremony with staff members of Petronas.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi officiated at the opening ceremony of the ‘Ngiling Bidai Begulai Enggau Petronas 2017’, hosted by Rumah Sumok over the weekend.

More than 100 Petronas personnel joined the longhouse villagers in the celebration, where they ran side activities such as games for the children along with an inter-longhouse ‘Kumang’ (maiden) and ‘Keling’ (warrior) pageants.

The Petronas staff members, together with the locals, also worked together to prepare food for ‘buka puasa’ (breaking-of-fast) at the longhouse for their Muslim colleagues.

There were talks on how to avoid longhouse fires by adopting simple preventive measures when using gas cylinders, as well as safety for those residing in areas near the gas pipelines, and also a sharing session on the importance of education in helping to pave the way to a better future.
