Fun-filled weekend as Petronas staff join longhouse folk for ‘Ngiling Bidai’

BINTULU: Ten longhouses at Similajau near here held their ‘Ngiling Bidai’ ceremony with staff members of Petronas.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi officiated at the opening ceremony of the ‘Ngiling Bidai Begulai Enggau Petronas 2017’, hosted by Rumah Sumok over the weekend.

There, a total of 47 families including single parents and senior citizens, received cash contributions and food baskets from Petronas.

More than 100 Petronas personnel joined the longhouse villagers in the celebration, where they ran side activities such as games for the children along with an inter-longhouse ‘Kumang’ (maiden) and ‘Keling’ (warrior) pageants.

The Petronas staff members, together with the locals, also worked together to prepare food for ‘buka puasa’ (breaking-of-fast) at the longhouse for their Muslim colleagues.

There were talks on how to avoid longhouse fires by adopting simple preventive measures when using gas cylinders, as well as safety for those residing in areas near the gas pipelines, and also a sharing session on the importance of education in helping to pave the way to a better future.

Also present were Asean Bintulu Fertiliser (ABF) managing director and chief executive officer Lucas Takip, Malaysia LNG Group of Companies (MLNG) chief executive officer Pau Kiew Huai, and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Sarawak Gas (PCSB Sarawak Gas) general manage Morris Mail.

The cash and goodies were contributed by Petronas subsidiaries in Bintulu – namely MLNG, PCSB Sarawak Gas, ABF, Petronas Dagangan Bhd, Petronas Floating LNG Satu, and Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline Project Sdn Bhd.
