KUCHING: The grand final of the Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom Cup is set for Sept 30 at Padang Dewan Suarah Bintulu.

This is the second edition of Bintulu Rural Football Development Programme organised by Bintulu Football Association.

“I always support this programme as it is to unearth new talents and groom potential footballers for the state from

the rural area,” said Minister of Utility Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom Rundi at a sponsorship handing over ceremony here yesterday.

State football stars like Abdul Jalil Ramli, Dahlan Matusin, Zepri Mani, Sharan Samad and Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamad had turned up for Bintulu in yesteryears.

The programme, sponsored by Sarawak Energy Berhad and Lea Sports Centre, focuses on players between 12 to 17 years old from Salamaju, Belaga, Murum, Asap, Bakun, Bintulu, Jepak, Spauh zone. The first phase of selection was held between May 11 to 13 in Murum, Bakun and Asap.

The best two teams from each zone (except Asap, Murum and Bakun zone which have three best teams) have been selected to vie for the cup in the grand final.

Yesterday’s ceremony was held at Pelita Building, The Istmus Off Jalan Bako here.

Among those present was Bintulu Football Association president Duke Janteng.
