PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysian Customs (JKDM) has denied a report that a container holding high technology military radar equipment had gone missing at the Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) in Johor.

Director-general Datuk T Subromaniam said the container had actually arrived at its destination at the Rotterdam Port in Holland.

“Investigations are being carried out by JKDM on compliance of internal standard operating procedure (SOP)  when releasing the cargo which needed permit under the Strategic Trade Act 2010,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

A local English daily yesterday reported that a container with military radar equipment which was on its way from Australia to Holland had gone missing while on transit in PTP.

Earlier in Johor Bahru, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin hoped the authorities would conduct a thorough investigation into the consignment of military radar equipment worth millions of ringgit,  reportedly found missing from the PTP near Gelang Patah here.

He said the matter should be given serious attention to determine if the incident involved organised crime, negligence or otherwise.

“Such incident can ruin the reputation of the three ports in the state in their efforts to be a regional logistics hub.

“The PTP is the sixth largest port in terms of cargo compared to other places. So, what had happened should not be taken lightly but needs serious attention. If the incident was due to shortcomings, weaknesses and so on, it is not good for us (state government),” he told reporters at the Permas state constituency ‘open house’ at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Stadium here yesterday.

Mohamed Khalid, who is Permas assemblyman was commenting on the reported disappearance of military radar equipment valued at millions of ringgit at the PTP recently, as reported by the local English daily. — Bernama
