KUCHING: The Samarahan Country Club (SCC), under the leadership of new president Richard Song Swee Jin, are looking to become a fully-fledged family club.

The new committee wants active collaboration with its parent club the Sarawak Club (SC) and seeks more affiliations with domestic and overseas clubs.

“We have met Sarawak Club president Dato Richard Wee and committee members over a lunch and they are willing to consider our request for financial assistance to make the club a better place for our members,” Song said at the closing ceremony of the Samarahan Country Club (SCC) Hari Raya Golf & Open House at SCC last Saturday.

Song, who was elected as the new president during the SCC annual general meeting on May 14, said the SCC committee will be looking into the safety aspects at SCC by building rails as there are many senior golfers, improving the gym, setting up two table tennis tables and children’s playground as well as organising and hosting other activities for non-playing golf family members.

Measures will be taken to improve the drainage system especially clearing the debris near Hole 3 and Hole 17 while the half way house at Hole 5 and Hole 15 will be upgraded.

“During our first committee meeting, I learnt that the financial status of the club is healthy but we shall be looking into ways to further boost it,” said Song.

Among the ways would be seeking corporate sponsors for the tee-boxes of the 18-hole golf course and encourage staff and students of Unimas and UiTM to patronise our club house and banquet facilities to generate revenue besides organising family activities and functions.

“We would like to call upon the corporate bodies to be our sponsors,” he said.

Meanwhile, SCC’s next competition is the Inter Team Match Play from Aug 13 to Sept 17.
